Bhubaneswar: The State capital on Monday too witnessed the countrywide demonstration being staged by the supporters of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu as members of Yoga Vedant Seva Samiti resorted to road blockade here on NH-5 for hours forcing vehicles to go off the roads. The delays of passenger laden vehicles left commuters fuming as they failed to reach their destination on time.

The followers of the godman shouted slogans against police action against Asaram Bapu who was arrested two days back on charges of sexually exploiting a minor school girl at his ashram in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His supporters demanded immediate release of the preacher whose one-day police custody ended today. However, police are contemplating to seek more time for questioning, reports said.

Police took the godman to Jodhpur after arresting him from his ashram in Indore and interrogated four hours on Sunday. The saint, during interrogation, denied meeting the girl alone at his ashram but with her parents during satsang, a religious discourse. The police, after conducting his potency test, said the saint was mentally and physically fit.

The student and her parents have alleged that the 75-year-old spent nearly an hour in a room with her, promising to exorcize her of evil spirits.
