Bhubaneswar: To avoid possible aviation-related terror incidents in the wake of the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir recently, all the airports across the country including Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar have been put under tight vigil.

Following a security alert through an advisory issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) recently to all the civil aviation establishments across the country, the BPIA authorities have tightened the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s in and around the airport.

Security arrangements have been tightened on runways, cargo terminals, parking slots inside the BPIA premises. Besides, the airport authorities have also asked the visitors to park the vehicles in designated places.

"Though instructions are issued every year to step up vigilance at the airports before the celebrations of Independence Day, directions to tighten security measures have been issued much earlier this year in view of the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir," informed Director of BPIA Suresh Chandra Hota.

“Security measures have been enhanced and officials have been asked to conduct random inspection in the airport to thwart any kind of suspicious activities. Besides, movements inside the airport premises have also been restricted,” said Hota.
