An armed robbery took place late Saturday night near Hatapada under Bonai police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. According to reports, five masked miscreants allegedly broke into a house and looted around 480 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 25 lakh in cash.
As per the complaint, the assailants allegedly tied up a widowed woman and her daughter, assaulted them, and escaped with the valuables. A staff member present in the house was also reportedly attacked during the incident.
As per reports, the family owns an electrical equipment shop. The miscreants allegedly first approached the shop, attacked the worker, and threatened him with a gun. They then instructed him to call the house owner. When the house owner opened the door to hand over medicine to the worker, the robbers forcibly entered the residence and attacked the occupants.
The miscreants allegedly tied up the mother and daughter after strangling them and demanded the keys to the safe. They opened the safe and looted the cash and gold. Gold ornaments worn by the mother and daughter were also allegedly looted.
According to reports, the cash was meant for a business transaction, and the jewellery had been kept for the daughter’s wedding.
Statements From The Victims
The house owner stated, “We were asleep when we received a call around 12:30 a.m. from our shop worker saying he needed medicine. When I opened the door with the medicine, the miscreants forcibly entered the house. One of them pushed me to the ground and threatened to harm my daughter if I raised an alarm.”
Her daughter added, “There were five miscreants. They first threatened our worker with a gun and forced him to call us. When we opened the door, they entered carrying a gun and sharp weapons.”
Police Investigation Underway
Bonai police have initiated an investigation and circulated information about the incident to nearby police stations, including Lahunipada and Gurundia. Officials expressed confidence in identifying the culprits soon.
Bonai SDPO Ram Chandra Biswal said, “After receiving the report, we reached the spot and began the investigation. Two teams are currently working on the case, and it is expected to be solved shortly as we have some leads.”
