An armed robbery was reported from Talmunda village under Laikera police station limits in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district late Monday night. A masked gang allegedly assaulted a couple and fled with cash and gold ornaments.
According to the complaint, five miscreants broke into the house at around 1 am while the couple were asleep. The accused allegedly tied the hands and legs of the husband and wife, assaulted them, and looted nearly 15 tolas of gold ornaments along with approximately Rs 7 lakh in cash.
The victims stated that the assailants were armed with swords, pistols and other weapons. They were reportedly speaking in Odia and Sambalpuri during the incident.
Victims Allege Assault and Loot
Jhili Nayak, one of the complainants, alleged that the miscreants forcibly entered the house after breaking open the door. “They broke open the door and entered the house at around 1 am while we were sleeping. They tied our hands and legs and assaulted us. They took away all the money and jewellery and damaged our mobile phones,” she said.
Prakash Nayak said they woke up after hearing the sound of the door being broken. “We realised they were thieves. They assaulted us, and we handed over the keys to the almirah and lockers,” he stated.
Police Launch Investigation
Following the complaint, police have launched an investigation into the incident. A forensic team visited the spot and began collecting evidence.

Police teams are conducting checks at various locations as part of the ongoing probe to trace and apprehend the accused.
