Bhubaneswar: Anti-Posco agitators under the aegis of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) on Friday burnt copies of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) compliance report at Dhinkiapatana.

The state government in its assurance report to MoEF on Wednesday had assured that no one satisfies the conditions laid down under Section 2(o) of the Scheduled Tribes & Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 to be treated as other traditional forest dwellers in the forest and involved in the Posco project area.

Around 500-600 activists today burnt the copies of the report terming it as ‘illegal’. Besides, the activists also burnt effigies of district and block administrative officers.

PPSS President Abhay Sahu warned to intensify agitation if the state government does not withdraw the report and reconsider palli sabhas.

On the other hand, the pro-project people have condemned the report burning incident by PPSS activists. They have termed the incident as drama.
