Puri: Local residents of Kapileswarpur village under Sadar Police limits of the district today launched an agitation against liquor trade in the area alleging consumption of spurious liquor as reason behind death of one Sahdev Nayak in the village two days ago.

Hundreds of villagers, mostly women hit the streets protesting liquor business and staged a demonstration demanding arrest of the accused involved in the death of Nayak. Women seized huge quantity of liquor during the protest.

On Friday too, many women residents had seized liquor pouches at Gendapada village and burned them. They also set the house of a person, who reportedly produced liquor, on fire which had led to tension in the area.

While no action has been taken by the police yet in connection with the incident, sources said, the exact reason behind Sahdev's death will be ascertained only after a post-mortem report.
