Balasore:Another woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Nilagiri area of Balasore district today, two days after a similar incident in the area, prompting villagers to stage a road blockade demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation to victim`s family.

According to police, Gauri Sing (50) was sleeping at her hut at Chaindhar village when the elephant from nearby Kuldiha forest ransacked the hut and trampled the woman to death.

A similar incident had taken place on January 28 in which an elderly woman was killed in Patna village, also under Nilagiri sub-division.

Irate villagers blocked Nilgiri-Kaptipada road since morning demanding 10 lakh compensation to victim`s family and shifting of elephant sanctuary located near the area

In another incident in Sundargarh district, A 40-year old tribal woman of Jhulenabar village was trampled to death near her house on Sunday by a wild elephant, forest officials said. Forest officials paid Rs 5000 to the bereaved family to meet cremation expenses and announced Rs 2 lakh to her family by the government.
