The District of Angul situated at the heart of Odisha was a part of Undivided Dhenkanal District till early March 1993. Angul District came into existence as a separate District on April 1, 1993. It is one of the major industrial towns in Western Odisha. This sleepy quaint vicinity transformed itself largely due to the presence of NALCO (National Aluminum Company) – that operates Asia’s largest Aluminum plant there and ancillary industries. Angul serves as an important junction or gateway to Central & Western Odisha. Anugul is also famous for the Satkosia Tiger reserve.
Two minor boys allegedly drowned in a canal at Baliamba village under Handapa police limits of Angul district on Thursday.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the unfortunate incident. Ashish among scores of his fellow villagers went to the Samal Right canal to ‘Danga Bhasa’ (symbolic boat sailing ritual) early on the auspicious day of Kartika Purnima.
As per initial reports, all the deceased were traveling in a bus that was en route to Bhubaneswar from Sundargarh district. The passengers had reportedly got down from the bus after it developed a flat tyre.
The incident took place on Sunday when the elephant was moving close to a forest area near Kulad and was chased by locals including Sahu.
The four-time MLA from Angul is likely to meet Speaker Pramila Mallik and submit his resignation papers today.
“The deceased, identified as Biswanath Bargia, had gone to guard his sweet potato crop from wild animals near Olaberi village under Purunakote police station in Angul district.
Similarly, a youth was killed after being run over by a speeding pickup van at Patnagarh in Bolangir district today. The pickup van fled the spot soon after the accident.
Investigation revealed that the employees of the institution are forcing the students to get up early in the morning. Those who disobeyed the directives were thrashed.

The accused engineer, Sarat Kumar Pradhan was nabbed by the vigilance after one Shrikant Dehury, a contractor from Khilari village in the district landed at the vigilance office with a complaint that Pradhan was demanding bribe to pass the electrical estimate of two lift irrigation projects.

When a team from the Kiakata Police Station reached the spot they had to face the ire of the villagers. The angry villagers vented their ire at the police van by setting it on fire.
