Balasore: The working of Balasore Police has now come under scanner after it registered a case against an undertrial prisoner.

According to reports, Khaira Police had arrested one Ranjit Nayak of Chintamanipada village in Balasore district in connection with a case on January 19, 2019. After staying in jail for nearly seven months, Nayak was released after getting bail from Orissa High Court on August 1.

However, Soro Police arrested Nayak on November 1 in connection with a loot case. The family members alleged that Nayak is being falsely implicated in the case.

How can Nayak be involved in the loot case which occurred on May 23 as he was inside the jail during that time, questioned family members.

Commenting on the incident, Bishikesan Mohapatra, Nayak’s lawyer said, “Police can’t be more careless than this. How is it possible to commit a crime when the person is already inside the jail?”

Meanwhile, Nayak's wife has lodged a complaint at Soro police station alleging that her husband is missing since November 1, 2019.

Senior police officials could not be contacted on the incident.
