Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of women from Balugaon and Banpur areas in Khurda district, who had registered themselves as building and other construction workers, levelled allegations of corruption in the Nirman Shramik Yojana of the State government.
As per sources, the women met Khurda Collector on Tuesday and apprised their concerns alleging irregularities in the scheme by Odisha Nirman Majdur Sabha headed by BJD’s Biju Shramik Samukhya’s secretary Sanjukta Mahala and Hindu Majdur Sabha.
They complained that the agents of the unions had collected Rs 1200 to Rs 1500 from them with a promise to provide each of them with registration cards and other benefits meant for Odisha building and other construction workers.
Some of them also alleged that they were at times threatened to be divested of their memberships if they did not take part in BJD rallies.
“They had promised us benefits after registering our cards but even after having paid membership fees for the last five years we are yet to get anything,” said a woman beneficiary.
However, even after depositing the amount for several years now, we are yet to get any benefit from the government, she alleged.
Meanwhile, accepting the charges, BJD’s Biju Shramik Samukhya’s secretary Sanjukta Mahala stated that agents used to collect money so that the people would not face problems while directly registering their names.
“We have already completed almost 50 percent work and by December this year, beneficiaries will get their money,” said Mahala.
Khurda Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra has also assured to take action after an investigation. “I have directed the officials to investigate the truth behind the matter and take necessary action accordingly,” he said.
