All-party meet on hostage crisis fails

Bhubaneswar: The all-party meet convened by the Speaker on the Italian hostage crisis has failed due to lack of consensus among various political parties. The meeting failed mainly reportedly due to the insistence of the Congress party which demanded reply from the chief minister on the floor of the house.

Earlier in the assembly, the Congress members demanded clarifications from the chief minister regarding certain critical remarks made against the Centre in interviews to several national newspapers. The chief whip of the Congress, during the zero hour, described the remarks of the chief minister as "unfortunate".

However, the chief minister told the media later that the release of the two Italians held hostage by the Maoists was the top most priority of his government and he had no intention to get into a verbal duel with the Union Home Minister at this critical moment.
