Jharsuguda: Almost a month after the death of Sambalpuri album actress Simran Singh, her family members staged a hunger strike in front of Jharsuguda Collectorate today demanding CBI investigation.

The family members of the actress including her father and mother said that they will continue their fight till they get justice. "It is a clear case of murder but police are trying to pass it off as suicide. We are sitting on a hunger strike demanding justice for our daughter," mother of the deceased actress said.

After getting information, police reached the spot and held discussions with the family members of the deceased actress. Earlier, the family members had met the district collector demanding CBI investigation into the case.  On Wednesday, Burla Police had taken Dhrubraj Suna, the husband of Sambalpuri album actress, on remand.

The Jharsuguda Police had registered a case of unnatural death after the mutilated body of Simran was found under Mahanadi River Bridge near Goira Matha in Sambalpur on January 4. However, her father had alleged that Simran was being tortured by her husband and in-laws

Later on January 10, the Burla Police in Sambalpur registered a murder case based on the complaint filed by the father of the deceased. A case was also lodged at Jharsuguda Police Station. Simran had tied the nuptial knot with Suna, a youth from Belpada in Bolangir in April last year allegedly against the wish of her family members.
