Air Odisha contract may get cancelled: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
Bhubaneswar: Casting doubts over the operations of Air Odisha in the State, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has termed the regional airliner a ‘bad company’ and said that its contract might get scrapped.
Pradhan said “Air Odisha is a ‘bad company’. They had somehow bagged maximum routes under the UDAN scheme. We are reviewing the whole tender process and would consider cancellation of contract.”
“We will start the tender process again and are in constant touch with the senior management of Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet to start operations from Jharsuguda airport. These operators will start regular flights if Jharsuguda airport is a commercial success,” Pradhan stated.
On the other hand, Odisha Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda urged Pradhan to look into the requests made by CM Naveen Patnaik concerning Jharsuguda airport.
“Pradhan should first issue a notification to rename the Jharsuguda airport as Veer Surendra Sai Airport. He should ensure flights from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi via Jharsuguda and then consider cancellation of the contract of Air Odisha,” Panda said.
