Sundergarh: Forest officials today recovered the carcass of an elephant from Raiguri forests under Bonai division of Sundergarh district.

Sources said the elephant was under observation after being spotted by the forest officials few days ago. Though the exact reason of the death is yet to be ascertained, it is being said that the elephant was four years old.

Sources further claimed that the elephant was separated from its herd in Raiguri forests under Jarada Range which might be the reason of illness.

Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) of Bonai forest division informed that the elephant was undergoing treatment and died yesterday.

However, further investigation would be based on the post-mortem reports, said sources.
