Agitators, police engage in pitched battle at Nayagarh Collectorate

Nayagarh: The Nayagarh Collectorate turned into a battle ground today after a violent clash between agitators and police. Some people were staging a dharna at the collectorate alleging deliberate attempts by local administration to harass Laxmiprasad sarpanch Soumya Ranjan Pradhan. Hundreds of men and women were staging protest and latter tried to enter the collectorate when the collector did not meet the agitators.

While the police intervened, a scuffle broke out which later turned into a violent battle. As per reports, some agitators and two police personnel were injured in the clash.

“Along with his supporters, Soumya Ranjan was holding discussions with police officials. Suddenly Soumya Ranjan and his supporters forcibly entered the Collectorate and vandalised the office,” said Sudhakar Sahu, SDPO.
