Kandhamal: At least 10 people including women were injured on Wednesday as police lathi-charged people demonstrating at the Daringibadi block office here. Tensions rose high as police attempted to disperse the agitating protesters.

Over 100 people sat in demonstration earlier in the day; protesting the detention of around 30 villagers by the security forces suspecting them to be Maoists.

Following the death of a jawan in Maoist ambush yesterday, 30 people of Kerubadi and Bhramarbadi villages were detained for their suspected links with the Maoists.

Meanwhile, people injured in the lathi-charge have been admitted into a hospital in Daringibadi. While some women are still trapped  inside the block office, commercial establishments in the city have been shut down and streets wear a deserted look.
