Paradip: The agitating workers at IOCL who were on strike since Saturday over the death a worker inside the company called off the stir on Sunday after company authorities assured of Rs 6.5 lakh compensation to the family of the victim.

The workers holding company authorities responsible for the death of Sanjay Patra, a labourer at the oil refinery company, went berserk and ransacked the office furniture leading to a face-off between CISF jawans and irate mob. The jawans resorted to lathicharge to disperse the angry workers in which nearly 50 agitators were injured.

Intensifying stir on company premises, the protestors demanded adequate compensation and a permanent job to kin of the deceased. They alleged that Patra was hanged after murder. The reason of the death has not been ascertained as the post mortem report is yet to reach police station.
