Absence of local companies takes sheen out of Rourkela job fair
Sundergarh: While the job fair in Roukela witnessed the participation of more than 10,000 students and youths, it proved to be dampener for many as very few local companies took part in the fair.
According to sources, the job fair organized by the District Employment Exchange saw more than 10,000 candidates from the district lineup for registration. The candidates were told that the selection will be done on the basis of educational qualifications. However, the candidates were left disappointed when they found no local companies at the fair.
“There are a lot of opportunities here but not very reputed companies. We are not getting opportunities as per our qualifications. There is nothing here for us,” said Priyambada Samal, a job aspirant.
Another job aspirant, Uttam Tandi said “We had a lot of hope that more number of companies will come for recruitment akin to earlier editions of the fair.”
Though there are around 40 companies and 20 training providers at the event, no local companies from Sundergarh have participated in the fair. Local companies like RSP, OCL and many industrial units from the district skipped the event. Even the companies who had participated in the last edition of the fair were missing this year, sources said.
Meanwhile, district collector Surendra Kumar Meena said “We will try to bring in more companies from the district in the next edition of the fair. We will voluntarily stay in touch with the candidates who will be working outside the State.”
