While social media was flooded with claims linking his demise to liver cirrhosis and excessive alcohol consumption, his wife Ranjita Majumdar has strongly denied these allegations, calling them baseless and defamatory.
Addressing the media, Ranjita alleged that her husband did not die due to liver cirrhosis or alcoholism but because of faulty treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. She urged people to refrain from spreading misinformation and tarnishing Abhijit’s image and the dignity of their family.
According to her account, Abhijit Dada was admitted to a private hospital on August 27 last year after suffering from viral fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and severe leg pain. Medical tests had reportedly shown critically low sodium and potassium levels.
Ranjita alleged that doctors had rapidly increased sodium levels beyond safe limits, leading to neurological complications. Later, MRI scans at another hospital had diagnosed him with Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (ODS), a serious neurological condition linked to rapid sodium correction. Similar observations were reportedly made at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
“Doctors at the private hospital have committed mistakes, and they should not do this again to anyone else, so that a person with good health conditions would die. Please, unnecessarily, you never say that he had been suffering from liver cirrhosis or that he was a drunkard,” Ranjita said.
“Nothing like that had happened to him (Abhijit Majumdar),” Ranjita expressed.
However, the accused private hospital rejected all allegations. A senior doctor of the health facility, Dr. PK Pradhan, stated that treatment was administered strictly as per standard medical protocols and denied that ODS or excess sodium dosage caused the death.
Regardless of the dispute over medical responsibility, the people of Odisha have lost one of the most influential musical icons, whose contribution to Odia music remains timeless and unforgettable.
