The death of Ollywood’s melody king, Abhijit Majumdar, has triggered fresh controversy, with conflicting claims emerging over whether the celebrated musician died due to liver cirrhosis or alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Cuttack.
A few days after his demise, Abhijit Majumdar’s wife, Ranjita Majumdar, publicly accused a private hospital in Cuttack of medical negligence, holding it responsible for her husband’s death. She strongly refuted social media speculation linking his demise to excessive alcohol consumption and liver cirrhosis, urging people not to stigmatise the death of a respected artiste.
The allegations gained further traction after noted Ollywood singer Antara Chakraborty echoed similar claims on OTV’s popular programme 'Khola Katha'. Reiterating the statements earlier made by Ranjita, Antara alleged that Abhijit did not die due to liver cirrhosis but because of faulty medical treatment.
According to Antara, an excessive dose of ODS administered to rapidly increase Sodium and Potassium levels in Abhijit’s body proved fatal and eventually led to his death. She alleged that the incorrect treatment pushed the singer into a critical condition from which he could not recover.

"As per media reports, Abhijit Majumdar died due to liver cirrhosis. However, sources clarified that his death occurred due to ODS. His liver, kidney, and heart were functioning properly. He had been hospitalised for nearly five months after slipping into a coma," said Ollywood singer Antara Chakraborty.
"His sodium level had dropped to an abnormally low level. However, during treatment at a private hospital, he was administered an excessive dose of sodium, which led to severe complications. As a result, the connection between the brain and the body was damaged, pushing him into a deep coma," she added.
Earlier, speaking to OTV, Ranjita had claimed that an overdose of medication administered at the private hospital led to Abhijit slipping into a coma. She stated that she later became aware of these alleged medical lapses through information from a private hospital and AIIMS authorities, a claim she placed on record before the camera on January 28. However, the private hospital concerned has denied all allegations of negligence.
"If neglect has been done then how his condition improved? We have followed the standard protocol as per the current practice," said Dr PK Pradhan of Blue Line Hospital in Cuttack.
With these serious claims being repeatedly raised by Abhijit’s family and close associates, questions continue to swirl around the real cause behind the premature death of the iconic musician.
Abhijit Majumdar, a hit-maker and trendsetter in the Odia music industry, passed away at the age of 54, sparking widespread grief and debate across social media platforms. While speculation linked his death to liver-related ailments, his family has consistently rejected these claims.
Meanwhile, during 'Khola Katha', Antara also shed light on several lesser-known aspects of Abhijit’s life. She spoke about his distinctive songwriting style, their professional and personal bond, and revealed that Abhijit was a devoted follower of Goddess Mangala of Jhanjiri Mangala in Cuttack. According to her, his faith once helped him recover a valuable property during a difficult phase of his life.
