8 people suffer from dengue, chikungunya

While three persons, including two women, tested positive to dengue, five others, three of them women, have been diagnosed with chickungunya, official sources said here today.

While all the chickungunya cases were reported from Boxipalli, a fishermen dominated village near Gopalpur-on-Sea, two out of three dengue cases reported from Berhampur town. Other on was from Hinjilicut.

The patients suffering from the dengue are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

Health officials have sent five more blood samples to the microbiology department of the medical college for test of dengue. The blood samples have been collected from Gada Govindapur village, near Digapahandi, where several people suffered from fever. "We are waiting the reports to conform the disease," said a senior health officer.

The district administration has constituted a cell at the MKCG Medical College following detection of the disease. "The cell will monitor the patients to ensure proper treatment," said district Collector Krishan Kumar.

The Collector, who visited the patients undergoing treatment and conducted a review meeting with heath officials, said the Condition of all the patients is stable. "There is no cause for panic as the district administration has taken several steps to prevent the spread of the diseases," he added.
