Panic gripped the Joda area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday after a rogue monkey went on a rampage, attacking several residents and creating widespread fear among locals.

According to reports, at least seven people have sustained injuries in separate incidents over the past two days. While five individuals were injured on the previous day, two more were attacked on Monday morning.

Residents allege that the monkey has been entering houses, chasing people, and biting them without provocation. The situation has become so alarming that many villagers are now afraid to step out of their homes. Locals claim the animal has even targeted sleeping children inside their houses.

“The monkey entered our home and pulled the blanket off a sleeping child. When the child woke up in shock, it chased and attacked him,” said a resident, recalling the horrifying encounter.

Another victim described how the animal bit him on the waist and abdomen after breaking into his house. “It has become impossible to move around safely. The monkey should be captured and released into the forest immediately,” he urged.

The Forest Department has been informed of the incidents, and villagers are demanding swift action to capture the animal and restore normalcy. Fear continues to loom large in Joda as the monkey menace persists for a second consecutive day.
