Bhubaneswar: Taking a cue from 2004 Abhisek Bachchan and John Abhraham-starrer movie ‘Dhoom,’ criminal Manjo Patra alias Amit was on a looting spree. Preliminary investigations reveal that Manoj and his gang had unleashed terror by stealing 60 cars in last 10 years and executing many robberies in twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, Puri and other parts of the State.

Such startling revelations were made by Commissionerate Police who nabbed Manoj following an encounter on Kendrapara canal road within Jagatpur Police limits on Wednesday night.

“The accused hails from Nischintkohili area and is involved in 18 cases,” said Cuttack DCP, Akhileswar Singh.

It is said that looks can be deceptive and Manoj had mastered the art of wining confidence of people. Posing as a driver, Manoj used to decamp with cash, gold ornaments and vehicles after winning the confidence of his employers.

Notably after fixing his target, place and time of crime, Manoj used to decamp with valuables with the help of other gang members. However, the cops zeroed in on Manoj on the basis of a CCTV camera footage in which he was seen escaping after committing crime at the house of a Jagatpur-based businessman on June 28.

“He worked here for three months and he behaved so well that we had no scope to doubt. However, within three to four minutes they escaped after stealing cash and valuables,” said the businessman.

Sources said Manoj was apprehended when he was on his way to meet his girlfriend.
