Keonjhar: Police on Saturday detained a suspect in connection with the spine chilling murder of a six-year-old boy whose body was found from a pond in Khuntapasi village under Harichandanpur police station limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Friday night. The man was detained on the basis of a complaint lodged by family members of the deceased.

The body of the deceased, identified as Anil Kumar Sahu, was found this morning with his throat slit, eyes gouged out and the genital missing.

Talking to media persons, Bhupati Sahu, a daily wage labourer and father of the deceased, said Manoj Kumar Sahu alias Papun, an anti-social of his village had a tiff with his wife on Friday morning in which he had had threatened his wife to finish off her clan.

“Yesterday, I had gone out to graze my goats. After returning home in the evening, I looked for my son. My wife told me that he had gone for tuition. After I came to know that my son had not gone to the tuition, I, along with other villagers, desperately searched for my son and later found his body from the pond on the outskirts of the village. Upon bringing the body out of water, I found my son with his throat slit open, both of his eyes gouged out and his scrotum missing,” he said.

Claiming that his son had been murdered by Papun, who is a drug addict and used to threaten people and abuse the women of the village, Bhupati demanded capital punishment for the killer and compensation to his family.

Informing the media, IIC of Jagannathpur police station, Jagannath Mallick confirmed the murder of the boy and said the police had begun investigation into the case and detained the accused named by the family in the police station for interrogation.
