500 Sand Santas on Puri beach

Puri: With Christmas just two days away, 500 sand Santa Clauses appeared on the Puri sea beach.

"Generally Santa Clause brings gifts to home for children but these Santas will spread messages for 'Saving the Earth,' Eminent sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik said.

"The Santa Clauses spread the messages about global warming with a slogan Go Green, Save Earth at Model beach behind Panthanivas hotel, Puri.

Pattnaik who is already a Limca record holder, was on way to create another by sculpting sand images of over 500 Santa Clauses.

In 2009, he had notched up the record of creating hundred sand santa clauses. Besides a large number of Santas, Sudarsan created 38 ft high sand Jesus stand in the middle of the sculpture with holding a message Go Green Save Earth.

About 30 students of his sand art institute are assisting him.

"I always try to build some awareness messages through my sculpture. So I sought to create awareness about global warming through Santas as the subject at the year end and I hope the sand sculptures will again catapult us in the Limca Book of World Record," Pattnaik said.

Officials of Limca book of record have given consent to his bid, he claimed.
