Muktimandap Pandit Sabha in Puri Jagannath Temple approved five Panjikas (almanacs) on Thursday for the year 2026–27, following an important coordination meeting held at the Srimandir office premises. The decision was taken after detailed deliberations on Panjika reconciliation and accuracy.

According to official sources, while as many as eight Panjika publishing institutions were invited to submit their manuscripts, only five publishers responded. Emphasis was laid on improving accuracy and ensuring error-free Panjikas in the coming years.

The five approved Panjikas have been prepared in a uniform manner and have received recognition from Muktimandap Pandit Sabha, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, and Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati, said the Chhatisa Nijog Mahanayak.

After thorough corrections and revisions by Muktimandap Pandit Sabha, the approved Panjikas have been declared free from errors. Special attention has been given to ensure complete accuracy in the observance of Puri Jagannath Temple’s rituals and major festivals at the Srimandir.

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) is also taking steps to ensure coordination among all Panjikas published in the State, aiming to avoid confusion.

Last year, differences in festival dates for events like Payasraddha, Saraswati Puja, Kali Puja, Shivaratri, and Janmashtami had caused public confusion. Allegations were also raised that some Panjikas were printed prematurely for commercial gain.

The key meeting was attended by Chhatisa Nijog Mahanayak Janardan Patjoshi Mahapatra, servitors of the 12th-century shrine, and Panjika publishers.

Notably, the SJTA had received manuscripts from Radha Raman, Kohinoor, and Arunodaya almanacs, along with those from Bhagya Deep and GN Tripathi Panjika publication houses.

“To curtail any disparities among the almanacs relating to rituals at the Jagannath temple, a harmonisation meeting was held, and a consensus was struck. If any misinformation is provided by them (the Panjika publication houses) after consensus has been reached, strict measures will be enforced,” the SJTA Chief Administrator, Arabinda Padhee, had previously said, reinforcing the Vaishnavite shrine’s commitment to accuracy in its operations.
