Bolangir: In a tragic incident, at least five people were charred to death and 40 others injured seriously when a bus in which they were travelling, hit with a roadside tree and caught fire at Puintala in Bolangir district on late Wednesday night. The identity of the victims has been established, police said.

The OSRTC bus carrying at least 50 to 60 passengers was going to Sinapali from Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The speeding vehicle lost control and collided with a tree near the block office of Puintala at around 2 am last night.

About 45 minutes after the incident, police and fire brigade team reached the spot and started rescue operation. The injured were admitted to Bolangir district headquarters hospital.

In a separate incident, a bolero van overturned at Arttatranapur under Khadiala block in Nuapada district killing two persons on the spot. Over 20 people were injured in the accident.
