Bhubaneswar: Around 40,000 students from across the State appeared the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Test (AIPMT) today.

The examination, which was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), held at three centers in Rourkela, Berhampur and Bhubaneswar.

The test is a must to take admissions into Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in various government-run medical colleges and hospital and private medical colleges.

However, this year, the CBSE has decided to publish two merit ranks for eligible students – state level and all India level.

Seats for the general category students this year will go down and the cut-off marks will go up, as the State government has decided to increase seats for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in all government medical colleges.

This year, we need to score more above 500 as there will be fewer seats available for general category after increment of seats in reservation categories, a student said.

We will strictly follow the State government rules and regulations during admissions in reserved categories, said OJEE chairman Tusharkant Nath.

The results of AIMPT would be announced on June 5, CBSE sources said.
