4 fishermen suffer critical injuries after explosion near Chilika lake

Puri: Four fishermen suffered critical injuries after an explosion took place on the banks of Chilika lake in Bhagabata sahi under Brahmagiri police limits in the district today.

As per reports, the blast took place all of a sudden during construction work of boats.

The injured persons have been identified as Abinash Behera, Abhiram Behera, Narsingha Behera and Babul Behera, who are residents of Arakhakuda under Brahmagiri area.

All of the were initially admitted to Rebana Community Health Centre, however, later they were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Puri.

While the reason behind the blast is still unclear, it is being suspected some boxes containing chemicals for fibre coating could be the reason behind the blast.

According to sources, the intensity of the blast was so high that the sound could be heard by locals residing in the nearby villages of Chilika. As per latest information, police are yet to reach the spot.
