4 dead, 6 injured as building collapses

Puri: At least four persons including 2 children were killed and six others suffered serious injuries after a two-storey building collapsed late last night here at Dolamandap sahi. The injured were rushed to district headquarters hospital. Rescue operation is on full swing as several others were feared trapped under the debris.
 
At least 10 people were in the building while the unfortunate incident occurred at around 3am. Two among the deceased are from Balasore, who visited the pilgrim city and made night halt in the building at Daita lane of Dolamandap area.  Another victim is a care taker of the house, sources said. They were admitted to hospital in critical condition where doctors declared them dead.
 
Police and fire brigade team swung into action and are intensifying the rescue operation. The reason of the collapse is still unknown, police said.
 
“The building was in dilapidated condition and it was used as a private lodging house without the permission of administration. Town police have detained the building owner and are interrogating him”, Puri ADM Uddhab Charan Majhi said.
 
‘I visited the hospital in the morning and met the family members of the deceased and injured who are undergoing treatment there” he added.  
 
Meanwhile, State government has declared compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the deaceased. The governmnet also announced to bear medical expenses of all injured who are undergoing treatment at Puri hospital.
