Rayagada: At least 305 parrots were seized from two persons at Seskal in Odisha's Rayagada district while being taken to Chhattisgarh from Andhra Pradesh, official sources said here on Sunday.

The two were arrested on charge of transporting the birds illegally and the vehicle used for the purpose was also seized on Saturday, Anil Kumar Panigrahy, Rayagada forest ranger said.

On a tip off, forest personnel intercepted the car carrying the birds in separate cages ostensibly for selling purpose in the neighbouring state and seized the winged species.

The duo identified as Amzan Khan and Shamsuddin Ali of Chhattisgarh were arrested under different sections of the Wildlife Protection Act and forwarded to the court, he said.

The birds were sent to the mini sanctuary at Burla , the ranger said.
