Dhenkanal: Three workers were critically injured on Tuesday after they fell from a height in a private steel plant inDhenkanal district.

The mishap took place when the workers were doing mechanical assembling work on a 30-feet high structure in the blast area of the plant at Meramundali under Motonga police station, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dhenkanal, Ajay Pratap Swain said.

The injured people - Pintu Pani, Madhu Senapati and Girish Biswal - were immediately taken to hospital for treatment, he said adding their condition was stated to be critical.

Sources said efforts were on to ascrtain the circumstances under which the workers fell from the high structure in the steel plant.

The incident triggered tension in the area with locals alleging lack of proper safety measures in the plant and demanding adequate compensation to the workers.

The accident came two days after four workers were killed and three injured in an LPG cylinder blast at a labour colony in the plant premises on Sunday.
