Bhubaneswar: Planning Commission member Dr Abhijit Sen on Friday said three departments of the state government have spent less than 50% of the funds allocated by the Centre on different schemes. 
 
“Energy, Urban Development and parts of Rural Development department have spent less than 50% of the funds and failed to meet their annual budget expenditure targets,” said Dr Abhijit Sen, after a review meeting of plan outlay for 2012-13 at the Secretariat here. 
 
Meanwhile, chief secretary BK Patnaik said, “In all 61% of the allocated Central funds has been spent during 2012-13.” He reasoned that delay in fund arrival has deterred the state government from undertaking several projects.
 
Sources said this fiscal the state was allocated Rs 15,000 crore, of which Rs 9,000 crore had been spent till December last.
