3 Odisha Players Selected In India's 1st Disabled Women's National Divyang Cricket Team 

Sundergarh: Sundergarh also called as the 'cradle of hockey' might have produced countless talents, but now with their cricketing skills and determination to achieve big, three young women of the district are set to make history with their selection in the first ever national differently-abled women’s cricket team.

T Dhanalakshmi, Puja Reddy and Jamuna Mahanta of Rourkela have earned berths for national physically challenged women cricket team during a selection camp held from November 15 to November 30 in Vadodara by Baroda Disabled Cricket Association(BDCA).

Out of 60 divyang women cricketers across the country, 16 were selected for the Indian team.

“I feel proud that I am selected for the Indian team. I want to play well for the country in the future,” said Jamuna.

While Dhanalakshmi has been assigned the post of coordinator, Puja will play as a batswoman and Jamuna will be the wicket keeper of the national team.

Speaking about her selection in the team, Dhanalakshmi said, “It was a big opportunity and we learnt a lot during the camp. It was a great experience for all of us.”

Besides, two more players from Odisha have also been selected in the B-team of differently-abled women’s cricket team. President of Odisha Divyang Sports Association Md Zahid Aziz said, “These girls will participate in the upcoming World Series and will definitely bring glory for Odisha.”
