3 more tech colleges seek closure of disciplines

Bhubaneswar: Three more engineering colleges in state on Wednesday have sought closure of some of their disciplines after struggling to stay afloat amid dearth of students, prompting an SOS to the state government.

The move followed the footsteps of 17 such colleges who on January 15 had applied to the State Employment and Technical Education and Training department (ETET) to shut down some ten courses including MBA, ETC, IT, Pharmacy amounting to nearly 1000 seats.

While Bhubaneswar Engineering College in the capital city applied for closure of its MCA course (60 seats), EAST has sought permission to shut down its B. Tech Computer Science course (60 seats).

Similarly, citing scarcity of students, Regional College of Management (RCM) has requested the state government to close its MBA and Tourism Management courses, (60 seats each) once rich in demand a couple of years back.

According to sources, the AICTE would withdraw its affiliation for these courses on the basis of recommendations of ETET and Directorate of Technical Education & Training, Odisha.
