Berhampur: Three migratory birds were killed by poachers in Chilika Lake, official sources said here today.

"We spotted a person carrying the carcasses at Sorana during regular patrolling. He ran away throwing the bag on the ground," Forest Ranger, Tangi, S C Behera said.

The birds were identified as large whistling teals, Behera said, adding the poacher has been identified and would be nabbed soon.

This is the fourth incident of poaching in the vast lake since the winged guests arrived in the second week of October for their annual sojourn.

Four poachers had been arrested and carcasses of 30 birds seized from their possession so far, he said.

Meanwhile, to protect the migratory birds visiting the lake from being preyed, Odisha government had set up as many 19 camps and deployed 50 employees to keep a constant vigil on poachers.
