Nabarangpur: In an unfortunate incident, three people were killed and ten others sustained critical injuries after the school bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Chandahandi in Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district today.

Initial reports claimed the bus belongs to Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre and it is being suspected that the injured and deceased could include a few school students as well.

The incident occurred this morning when the bus carrying as many as 35 passengers was en route to Chandahandi. The passengers included students and teachers from Raighar, Nabarangpur, Umerkote and Jharigaon and they were on their way to attend a district-level seminar.

School superintendent Subhakanta Mishra, who has also sustained minor injuries said, "We were going to attend a seminar in Aurobindo school in Chandahandi. Suddenly the driver lost control over the bus near the Ghati after he found a motor cycle coming from the opposite direction.

"Lalit Mohan Patnaik of Nabarangpur, Rina Nayak and one Niranjan were killed in the mishap," informed Mishra.

Meanwhile, sources said fire personnel rushed to the spot for rescue operation and shifted all the injured to Jharigaon hospital and Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

On Saturday night, at least 15 persons were injured in two separate road accidents in Rayagada and Boudh districts.

In Rayagada, 12 persons were injured after the van they were travelling in rammed into a tree near Dhabagudi in the district.

In Boudh district, three persons, including the driver and helper of a gas cylinder-laden truck, were injured late last night after the driver lost control and the vehicle slid off road near Jogipathar in the district.
