Sonepur/Kalahandi: At least three persons died while 13 others including women sustained injuries in two separate road mishaps in Sonepur and Kalahandi district Friday night.

According to sources, Tejraj Bag and Uttam Dangria of Khemalaya village under Ulunda police limits of Sonepur district were killed after the pickup van in which they were travelling along with eight others collided head-on with a speeding truck near Metakani last night. While Tejraj and Uttam died on the spot, seven others injured, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, were rescued by some locals and admitted to Burla hospital for treatment.

Latest reports claimed that another critically injured person succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The death toll in the accident is expected to increase as condition of most of the injured persons is critical, said sources adding that the deceased and injured belonged to a band party and the mishap took place while they were on their way to Rushuda from Khemalaya.

Ulunda police, meanwhile, has initiated an investigation into the matter.

In another incident, five passengers sustained injuries when a private bus named 'Sarala' overturned at Kendughat on national highway-59 in Kalahandi district. Conditions of three persons are stated to be critical. They are undergoing treatment at Madanpur Rampur hospital.

The accident took place when the driver lost control over the wheels of the bus while it was en route to Bhubaneswar from Lanjigarh. Police have started an investigation into the incident and are in search of the driver of the bus who fled the scene soon after the mishap.
