3 families ostracised, attacked by Kangaroo court in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: Another shameful incident of kangaroo court justice has surfaced in Nayagarh district in which 3 families were attacked by villagers after being ostracised.

According to sources, the incident took place today at Aswastapada village where ostracised members of 3 families were attacked by a group of people.

Yesterday, the victims had an altercation with some people of the village over flow of drainage water. Following the altercation, village people gathered together and decided to ransack the houses of the victims and attacked them as well.

Moreover, it is alleged that the mob stole belongings worth over Rs 1 lakh.

“They came and claimed ownership over the property. They even provoked people to attack us. The attackers ransacked the whole house and stole the things kept for my sister’s wedding.”

“The incident happened over a long-standing dispute. Police reached the spot and prevented the incident from escalating. We have filed two cases in this connection and will investigate expeditiously. We will take strict action against the persons involved in the incident,” said Nayagarh SP, Shashi Bhusan Satpathy.
