Bhubaneswar: 3 persons were killed while 16 others sustained severe injuries in separate road accidents in Boudh and Balasore districts today.

Tension prevailed in Boudh after two teachers died in a tragic road accident near Biranarasinghpur Bridge. The deceased, identified as Azim Khan and Jyotirmayee Pradhan, were travelling on a motorcycle when a speeding car hit them from behind, sources said.

Both Khan and Pradhan hail from Rambhikata village under Harbhanga block and were working as teachers in Boudh Government Girls' High School.

Irate over the incident, locals then set afire the car that was involved in the mishap.

In another incident, one Kanwariya was killed and 11 others were injured after the SUV they were travelling by, hit a roadside tree near Puruna Cuttack on NH-57.

All the Kanwariya were on their way to Harishankar from Gania village in Nayagarh when the accident occurred. Sources said the condition of four kanwariyas is said to be critical and they have been shifted to Burla Medical College and Hospital.

At least five persons were injured after a car rammed into a roadside tree near Podasula chhak in Nilagiri in Balasore.

Sources said all the injured hails from Mayurbhanj and were returning from AIIMS Bhubaneswar when the accident took place in the wee hours today.
