Jajpur: Three persons were arrested for allegedly hunting a spotted male deer in Bichhana reserve forest in Jajpur district today.

The forest officials also seized about 30 kg of raw meat, horns and hide of the deer and weapons used in the poaching, official sources said.

The arrested were identified as Golak Dehury, Basanta Dehury of Avayapur and Rajkishore Samal of Satamana village. According to forest official sources, the accused had trapped the animal by spreading nylon net and later killed it to sell the meat. He had buried the antlers, legs, head and hide of the deer which were retrieved by the forest officials.

"We have seized the weapons and net used in hunting the deer. We also retrieved antlers, legs, head and hide of the deer which the accused had buried in the forest," said Ansu Prajna Das, divisional forest officer, Cuttack forest division.

The arrested were produced before court which remanded them to judicial custody.
