Sonepur: As many as 269 people from five villages were taken ill after consuming food at a feast organized during the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a bridge over Anga river at Julunda in Sonepur yesterday.

The programme was attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari who laid the foundation stone of the bridge. Subsequently, a feast was organised for the crowd gathered for the programme.

While many of them were admitted to Binika Community Health Centre, doctors also visited different villages to provide medication to the affected residents.

"Our health team has visited different villages to treat the affected residents. The situation is under control now," Medical officer of Binika, Prabhas Chandra Pradhan, said.
