223 Gram Rojgar Sevaks dismissed by Sundergarh Collector over cease-work stir

Sundergarh: The District Collector of Sundergarh dismissed 223 Gram Rojgar Sevaks (GRSs) today over their absence from duty on account of the ongoing cease-work agitation. The GRSs have been on cease-work agitation since November 15 demanding fulfilment of several demands.

According to sources, the cease-work agitation by the GRSs has disrupted workflow and the Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (PDDRDA) had requested the employees to withdraw their agitation and return to work.

After the employees failed to return to work, the district Collector Surendra Kumar Meena dismissed all the 223 GRSs. The PDDRDA informed that all the 223 posts, which now have fallen vacant, will soon be filled up.

Manoj Mahanandiya, president, Sundergarh GRS Association said “It is sad that the Collector dismissed 223 GRSs. We have been protesting for the last 54 days demanding regularisation of jobs. We are going to intensify our protest and take legal recourse in the coming days.”

“They (GRS employees) have been on strike since November 15 and were issued show-cause notice asking them to join work by December 27. Failing to do so, they were warned of termination of their contracts. The order for termination has been issued,” said Bhumesh Chandra Behera, PDDRDA, Sundergarh.
