Kandhamal: G. Udaygiri Police exhumed the body of a college girl on suspicion almost 22 months after her death. According to reports, the body of the deceased JS Celebrate of Kumbharkupa village was exhumed  after her family members alleged that she was murdered by her brother-in-law.

Family members alleged that deceased Celebrate was strangulated to death by her brother-in-law.

According to reports, Celebrate, a Plus II student was found hanging in her house on February 1, 2018. Suspecting that she committed suicide, the family members had conducted the funeral and buried her body.

However, the family members recently lodged a complaint alleging that the girl was murdered by her brother-in-law. Following the complaint, the body was exhumed from the grave in the presence of the local Tehsildar.

Meanwhile, the cops have sent the remains of the body for forensic examination in Berhampur.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered by G. Udaygiri police. Moreover, the accused has been detained and further investigation in this connection is underway.

"The body parts have been sent for verification to FMT department of MKCG Berhampur. Again those parts will be sent to Bhubaneswar for DNA profiling. Based on all the reports, it will be ascertained whether it was suicide or murder and action will be taken accordingly. An investigation is currently underway," said G.Udaygiri SDPO Jaykrushna Behera.
