The Odisha Vigilance Directorate has intensified its statewide crackdown on corruption, with 20 police officials and employees caught red-handed while accepting bribes over the past 18 months. The data was presented by CM Mohan Majhi in a written reply in the Odisha Assembly, highlighting a sustained effort to curb graft across government departments.
According to official figures, a total of 271 government officials and employees were arrested in vigilance-related cases during this period. Vigilance Courts also recorded 174 convictions, reflecting a significant rise in successful prosecutions and judicial action against corruption.
Administrative measures followed these legal outcomes. As per the Chief Minister’s statement, 33 officials were dismissed from service, while pension benefits of 65 retired officials were withheld due to their involvement in corruption cases. These actions underscore the State government’s strict stance against financial misconduct and abuse of office.
Majhi noted that the Vigilance Directorate continues to prioritise trap operations, which expose bribery at various levels of public service. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustained monitoring and investigation to ensure transparency and accountability across departments.
