Berhampur: At least 20 labourers of Sanakhemundi area in Ganjam have been allegedly held captive in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, the labourers are being subjected to torture and denied wages for the past two months.

A cable company named Punna Balaji had lured the labourers from Ganjam and engaged them in 'Neno Electronic Company in Hyderabad by promising a daily wage of Rs 550.

However, the labourers alleged that they have not received their wages since the past two months and even denied basic necessities including food in the last two days.

The matter came to light after the labourers shared a video footage of their suffering on social media. The family members of the stranded labourers have now sought help of the administration in rescuing them who are reportedly facing exploitation and torture in Andhra Pradesh.

It is pertinent to mention that 17 women labourers of Koraput district who were reportedly held captive for last three months at a brick kiln in Telangana were rescued last week.
