Two wild boars were found dead in a well on Monday in Bautiapada village under the Champua forest range of Keonjhar district. It is suspected that the boars might have died after falling into the water body.

According to sources, the animals had entered the village in search of food and accidentally fell into the well belonging to a local resident, Ranjit Behera, in Jyotipur-Bautiapada under the Ukhunda section.
Villagers first spotted the carcasses inside the well and immediately informed the Forest Department. Acting swiftly, forest officials reached the site and recovered the two wild boars’ bodies.
The carcasses were later taken to the local forest beat office for a post-mortem. After completion of the necessary procedures, the remains will be buried within the office premises, a senior forest official informed.
Forest authorities believe the incident occurred as the animals strayed into the habitation while searching for food, highlighting growing instances of wildlife venturing into human settlements.
However, no comments were received from the forest officials in this regard.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a four-year-old elephant calf had died after falling into an abandoned well inside a cashew forest near Pataleswar village under Ranpur forest range in Nayagarh district on November 23 last year. Forest officials had said the calf slipped into the unused well and was unable to climb out, leading to its death.
It was said that the open water body had been left unfenced and was overgrown with thick vegetation, making it difficult for the animal to detect the well.
