2 students killed due to roof collapse in Kandhamal
Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two students of a government-run school for tribal girls were killed and three other boarders were critically injured when the roof of its hostel building collapsed in Kandhamal district today.
Sources said the roof of the Ashram School at Bastingia under Chakapada block collapsed on students around noon killing one Sasmita Kanhar, a class 7 student on the spot while critically injuring three others.
The critically injured students were brought to the Phulbani district hospital where one of them succumbed to her injuries taking the death toll to two in the accident.
Meanwhile, the district collector announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of deceased.
Efforts were being made to shift the other two injured to the MKCG Medical College Hospital at Berhampur, sources added.
