Bhubaneswar: A day before the on-line evaluation of plus two answer sheets, the higher education department convened an emergency meeting on Sunday over possible shortage of evaluators as most of the college lecturers applied for leave.

Around 40 per cent lecturers engaged in the task of evaluation have sought leave on health ground following which the department stood tough on the matter warning them of stern action.

"All the principals have been asked to cancel the applications and ensure presence of lecturers at the evaluation centres. Any of the staff remained absent will face strict action", additional secretary of higher education Durga Prasad Behera said.

This apart, the health certificates of the applicants will be sent to medical board for verification, he added.

Sources said, 4 lakh, 20,000 answer sheets of 90,000 students of science stream are scheduled to be evaluated on-line from tomorrow and it will continue till April 20. However, evaluation process might be delayed in case of large scale absence of the evaluators, sources added.
