2 injured in police lathicharge at Khurda Collectorate
Khurda: Tension prevailed in Khurda after two persons were injured in lathicharge by police during protests by members of ‘Tangi Janjagaran Mahamenta’ in front of the Collectorate today.
According to reports, police resorted to lathicharge to control the agitators who went berserk and ransacked property inside the Collectorate.
Several flower pots were damaged by the activists during their attempt to forcefully enter the Collectorate building.
The agitation was carried out by samiti members, sarpanches and other elected officials of Tangi block. They alleged that despite repeated complaints, various developmental works in the block are not being executed.
Agitators said as they are answerable to the people of the block, they had brought such irregularities to the notice of the concerned block officials and district administration. However, as no step was taken to resolve their grievances, the outfit members had come to submit a memorandum to the district collector today, they added.
Trouble erupted after activists of the outfit scuffled with police after they were prevented from entering the building.
